Frontier has advised a railway company regarding access charges for high-speed infrastructure.
The liberalisation of the high-speed passenger rail services in Spain began in 2020. At the end of 2021, the project for the modification of the Railway Sector Law was published in order to adapt the regulation to the arrival of competition in the market. The Law establishes the principles for the use of the railway infrastructure, including the rules for setting the access fees for high-speed infrastructure. Access fees are the payment made by the railway companies to the infrastructure manager (Adif Alta Velocidad) for using its tracks and facilities. Following the entry of Ouigo in 2021, the liberalisation will complete this year with the entry of Iryo. These companies will use Adif’s high-speed network to compete with Renfe.
