Frontier presents study on land owner compensation for electricity lines in Germany

Christoph Gatzen and Matthias Janssen of Frontier today spoke at the “Platform Energy Networks” forum initiated by the German Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWi). The forum brings together a wide group of stakeholders concerned with electricity grid expansion issues. Christoph and Matthias presented the findings of a study for BMWi that provides an overview on how land owners and users, who are affected by new electricity lines, are financially compensated by transmission and distribution network operators in Germany.

Frontier spoke with a wide range of stakeholders, including network operators, farmers’ and land owners’ associations, and the energy regulator BNetzA . The results from the study form the basis for the up-coming debate about whether the legal framework needs adjustments to increase compensation to accelerate grid extension projects, and enable a smooth transition to a carbon-free electricity generation mix.

Frontier regularly advices public authorities, regulators and network operators on policy issues in the energy sector.
