ComReg, Ireland’s communications regulator, has today published a Frontier report on the country’s telecommunication connectivity needs. The report highlights a number of trends which affect connectivity requirements in Ireland. Consumers’ demand for data is increasing as we require connectivity for all our devices where we live, work, travel and spend our leisure time.
There are however a number of challenges that Ireland faces in providing connectivity, such as:
- The high cost of increasing mobile connectivity given Ireland is a very rural country, and
- Positive policies to promote the use of environmental materials in homes have the unintended consequence of limited the quality of mobile connectivity experience when indoors.
Frontier’s report highlights what stakeholders can do to improve consumers’ connectivity experience, and suggests mutually supportive actions, which taken jointly by all stakeholders, whether government, ComReg, network operators or consumers themselves, will support Ireland’s growing connectivity needs.
